This solution is used to stream live content and manage video recordings. It is an online video platform for private live streaming and on-demand content. Furthermore, real-time chat functions can be activated or moderation modules can be integrated. The channel pages can be designed company specific. Live and on-demand videos can be played on almost any device with any display size or bandwidth.

Use case for the academic market

IBM video streaming allows you to record lectures and then deliver them to your students. Content can be organized and distributed in channels (e.g., faculty, semester classes, etc.).

Even if there is an increased move back to face-to-face classes, the pressure for digitization remains for universities and colleges: video streaming can be used not only in pandemic times. A hybrid concept (live+online) is also conceivable. In addition, recording and providing content as replay offers a general solution for remote students and can be reused in future lockdown times.

How is the solution offered?

The solution is hosted as a cloud or software-as-a-service platform via the German IBM Cloud. This eliminates additional operating and hardware costs for the customer. The end users or students can consume the videos on almost all possible end devices. Only a browser is required. The administrator is provided with an administration interface for user management, authorization concepts and analysis dashboards as well as AI-supported subtitle functions in different languages.

• Pricing elements are: Basic platform, storage in 10GB packages, channels, number of users per month
• Hosting or secured storage of the content in the IBM Cloud (RZ Frankfurt) is included in the storage price
• 1 basic instance includes 100 users/students + 2 channels + 100 GB storage + additional 2000 viewing hours if used publicly. Channel, user and storage can be added.

• On Premise software platforms are often cumbersome, expensive to purchase and expensive to host and manage. IBM offers the solution as a managed SaaS solution.
• Optionally, the customer can add an Enterprise Content Delivery Network (ECDN). This balances the load on the network when a lot of video streaming needs to be transmitted. Thus, the use of video streaming has no impact on the network capacity of the company.
